Fancy a summer-long treasure hunt? A $23,000 gold prize awaits in Finland

More commonly associated with Santa Claus, winter sports, and the Northern Lights, Finland’s Lapland region is promoting a very different kind of adventure this summer: a real-life treasure hunt for a hidden gold bar worth €20,000. Centered around the resort town of Levi, the “Midnight Sun Hunt” invites visitors to follow a series of clues released throughout the summer, exploring hiking trails, landmarks, and attractions under the Arctic’s nearly endless daylight. Participants begin at the Levi Visitor Centre, where they receive their first clue, while additional hints will gradually narrow the search until the final clue is released in late August. Organizers hope the event will showcase Lapland’s lesser-known summer season, when the midnight sun keeps the landscape illuminated around the clock, offering opportunities for hiking, biking, and outdoor exploration. The initiative also draws on the region’s long history with gold prospecting, transforming the search for hidden treasure into a unique tourism experience that encourages visitors to discover a different side of Finland’s far north.

Con base nella località turistica di Levi, la “Midnight Sun Hunt” invita i visitatori a seguire una serie di indizi che verranno svelati nel corso dell’estate, esplorando sentieri escursionistici, punti di riferimento e attrazioni sotto la luce quasi infinita dell’Artico. I partecipanti partono dal Centro Visitatori di Levi, dove ricevono il primo indizio, mentre ulteriori suggerimenti restringeranno gradualmente il campo di ricerca fino al rilascio dell’indizio finale a fine agosto. Gli organizzatori sperano che l’evento metta in luce la stagione estiva della Lapponia, meno conosciuta, quando il sole di mezzanotte illumina il paesaggio 24 ore su 24, offrendo opportunità per escursioni a piedi, in bicicletta ed esplorazioni all’aria aperta.
